what are the best things do do during a vacation in rio de janeiro?

so you have to go visit the statue of christ and check out the view, but be prepared to climb up the steps - there are lots. but my favorite thing was actually outside of rio. if you drive about 2 hours south along the coast, there's an island called isla grande. (i don't remember the name of the town you have to stop in to get the ferry.) it's fantastic for diving... and relaxing. there are about 200 residents, no cars, and we stayed in the "big" hotel, which had 12 rooms. the food was fantastic, and the drinks were potent. the guests on the island were from all over south america and beyond, so it was fun to chat with others. we also chartered a boat and "captain" and spent one day on a beach on the other side of the island. we ended up spending 3 days there. this is my favorite place in the world.
