Are there A LOT of them? In Rio and in Santos too? I've been to other places where they were literally crawling and flying everywhere you walked in the streets at night. I have a phobia so I want to know what to expect when I go.

I live in Rio de Janeiro and for here I don't see cockroaches, I cannot talk anything about Santos, however exist here municipal organs of endemia control that are responsible for exterminating vectors of diseases , I believe that they also combat the cockroaches there in Santos.

With its bright sandy beaches, rising mountains and picturesque harbour, it's no wonder that Rio de Janeiro is recognized as the "cidade maravilhosa", or marvellous town and with hotelbye you can take the chance and visit this amazing city. Rio de Janeiro is facing the South Atlantic shore and is the second-largest town in Brazil. That city is gifted with one of the very most wonderful natural adjustments for a town in the world. The impressive landscape is one of the reasons that visitors chose Rio de Janeiro. All through carnival time, a event that everyone noticed, the streets fill with audio and ornately costumed performers attracting tourists from throughout the globe.

Ok. if you're afraid of bugs or cockroaches don't even go as far south as tijuana, mexico (talking about developing countries). central and south america are full of amazing living life, which goes in full scale from humans to animals and bugs. Believe me I've been to every single country in central and south america.

this is the deal: if you're planning to go to brazil for sure the hotels, malls, and in well established business you will not see one cockroach; however, if you're like me who loves backpacking, eat in small markets where locals eat, have the real taste of the particular community... expect cockroaches, bugs, dusty chairs, kids asking for change, and much more that you can only experience when you're there.

Good luck on your trip

There are some of them, but not that many. I maybe get to see like 5 throughout a whole summer.

In Santos I've never actually seen a flying one, just the standard walking types.

Yes there are flying cockroaches and the warmer the weather the more there are. Best to keep windows closed after dark. Thats the only way to keep them out of the room.

There are but not so much in the city areas. You'll only see them in more suburban areas. I have seen like 1 or 2 before but it wasn't in the city and they barley bother people. Just stay away from them and if your that scared, keep your windows closed.

It might not be a lot, but you should expect to see several especially on summer.
